Between Us Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Between Us

Between us

She is my classmate,
-spoke of difference
- "Gallery, Museum, "
- (posted to demonstrate.)

An artist with paintings,
-all framed, well, nicely
-exposed to audience
-unlike the Museum's.

"I am an indigenous…"
-commented and stopped!

"The objects in those shelves
-being bones, treasures,
-are of our ancestors,
-so, are ours, since are theirs."

Like an expert priest
-speaking, preaching
-of Jesus: "King of peace
-who carried own cross
-and wore thorn as crown
-and bled till he died…"
-she spoke, reddened eyes
-with water and the salt…

"I am banned and cannot
-interact with my past,
-glass sits between us! "

In this way, she, polite,
-resented acts of White
-that collects artefacts…

"Aren't they criminals? "
-was said but without words,
-showing her depth of heart:
- "Racism and insults
-keep going on and on…
-all being against us! "
