A BIRD PURSUES A BEE
A bird pursues a bee and kisses her,
flight of fancy by Miró. Unprimed
the canvas kisses are a cat whose purr
excites my mistress less than words I've rhymed
and sent her through the cyberair like kisses
Miro's bird blows upon a bee. The painter
expressses my affection, but he misses
the metaphor my mistress thinks is quainter.
Inspired by the very first painting in the Miró exhibition at MoMa, an unprimed canvas with a yellow swirling loop, above which Miró writes: “Un oiseau poursuit une abeille et la baisse.”
