Black Coffee In New York: New Version Poem by Paula Glynn

Black Coffee In New York: New Version

Neon nights and neon lights
Downtown popular music clubs
Playing toe tapping jazz and blues
People dancing hip to hip cheek to cheek
The piano elegantly playing tinkle stars
Well presented charismatic performances

Musicians crafting their trade well
Jazz music clubs where the lonely dwell
Jazz music clubs where no one is given hell
Jazz music clubs where love tales people tell
The atmosphere romantic and physical
Men wearing their daytime work clothes

Barely having time to eat out for dinner
In the busy New York city night life
The morning bringing black coffee
The unwanted morning light
After the erotic night before
Couples together in strong union

Maybe not romance lasting forever
But having spent one night together
A night of sensual physical passion
The grey world turning into club nights
The piano man and soul singer
Being the passionate love bringer

Night after night the jazz and blues play
Singles not being able to resist and stay away
Knowing love develops as sultry music plays
The soft silk dresses of the women
The dark blue wool and cotton male clothing
Attracting great interest, eyes catching eyes

The service people of the New York night
Bringing an awesome and amazing sight
People finding companionship
People finding lovers
People finding friends
People finding romance

And night after night lonely people dance
Knowing lives full of magical romance
Making their dreams come true
And black coffee in New York
Wakes up last night's alcoholic spell
A sexy and nostalgic tale to happily tell

For love can mean being under a spell
Perhaps that a mystic psychic did foretell
For fever started long ago
Cave man and cave woman
Felt desire, lust and blood
Their graphic physical attraction that was true love.
