Black Darkness Poem by RoseAnn V. Shawiak

Black Darkness

Skyscrapers in the night, lighting the evening
horizon, black hanging in a vertical background.

Darkness playing in the light with no idea of
it's frightening aspects.

Lights burning brightly through windows way up
high, a black darkness staying just outside it's
deadly realm of light.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Daniel Brick 10 October 2014

This is a brilliant evocation of sheer terror - when everything that consoles and comforts us is withdrawn and what's left is impossible to process. Actually the tone here is quite impersonal; you create powerful images and let them speak for themselves. By not interjecting any personal feelings yourself, you put the whole weight of this vision of Darkness in the reader - AND BOY YOU'RE GONNA CARRY THAT WEIGHT A LONG LONG TIME! I am strangely moved by this poem.
