Blackbird Down

I’m used to broken glass, holding pieces in my hands, praying to God that this feeling won’t last, praying to believe a friend. But I’m growing weary of hanging on, I’m growing weary of knowing if I’ll ever belong in someone’s arms. A voice inside my head whispers “baby girl I love you, your perfect just the way you are.” He’s whispering “baby girl don’t listen to any voice but mine cuz I’m here all the time.”

I wish I could make it go away, even the slightest bit. Wish I could for once feel like I deserve it, so tell me when will it be me? When will it be my time? Then I hear him whisper “baby girl I love you, more than you could ever comprehend, baby girl I’m still listening, and I’ll be here to pick you back up. Every time he walks right past you, every time he can’t see through your soul, I’ll be here to hold you, I’ll be here to keep you from being alone.”

But Lord I feel like it’ll never be me, Lord I just feel like it’ll never be meant to be. Lord I want to cry, I want to just give in. I don’t understand why you’d even consider whispering….. “Baby girl I’ve been here all along, and I’m the only hand you need to hold, baby girl won’t you just listen to my song, I promise you’ll alright. Baby girl I see more in you than any man ever would, ever should. Baby girl I’ve been here all along and I hear your broken song….I’ve been here all along, and I hear your broken hearted song.”
