Blackfeet Blessing Poem by Jim Yerman

Blackfeet Blessing

For today's blessing I thought it would be neat
to yield my pen to one of the Niitsitapi tribe
We gave them the name Blackfeet:

What is life?
It is the flash of a firefly in the night.
It is the breath of a buffalo in wintertime.
It is the little shadow which runs across the grass
and loses itself in the sunset.
