There is a doll of a monkey
In the toilet
My daughter assigned
For my use in her Seattle home
The monkey seems to blink
Every time I use the commode
She has a baby hugging her shoulder
Which also seems to blink
Blink, blink, blink
At the often inebriate me
Who encroaches your privacy
Meandering into your home
The toilet - your private abode
Reminding me of a distant past
When I roamed the forest
A Neanderthal, the missing link
Homo erectus, a yelling ape
God knows what
Oh doll, I am an ape
Incurable, inebriate
Thanks I am reminded of it
Every time I am inside the toilet
Blink, blink and blink
May Darwin rest in peace
And the monkey in me ease
Last two lines capture the essence of our origin. A poem creates itself from ordinary things as well as extraordinary things in life. Your poem is a beautiful example. Thank you.
An interesting write. I love the element of humor in it. Its lighthearted tone pleases the reader. Every time we see a monkey, the theory of evolution comes to mind n we look at the monkey like we are looking into the mirror. lol. A delightful write.
Is this poem a figment of your imagination or a fun write? I don't want to see such a gifted person who can fathom into the core of life much more than others, becoming inebriate....... and losing sanity! As a sincere poet friend, I feel pained to believe that it is true... I like to dismiss it as mere fantasy! A 10
I enjoyed how you weaved the bathroom decoration into a tale of evolution. Except for its hue, the monkey looks exactly like me. : -)
Hi Kelly. The poem just happened at the spur of the moment. The resemblance right is copyright and I have appropriated it much before you. LOL!
