Blue Poem by Holly Jamestone

Blue

I would prefer to be any other color
Yet without warning blue sneaks up on me
It envelops my spirit and resides in my veins
Hangs its valances on all of my windows
And simply roosts as an unwanted house guest

Yellow would be nice the way the sun
Crisps the flowers' leaves on a warm July day
And the butter on the popcorn nestles among the kernels
And the daffodils to peek at us shyly the first day of spring

Red, how about the red sheen of an apple
Or gorgeous lips of Marilyn Monroe
Or Dorothy Gale's red shoes in The Wizard of Oz
Instead of a fright so scarlet that accompanies blue
And offers the ottoman to the unwanted house guest

I would welcome any other color of the rainbow yet
Blue plays hide-and-seek with my emotions
Crushing all the other colors into a potpourri of confusion
Making it hard to look at the chameleon azure sky
In case it is also trying to taunt me
