Body Language Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Body Language

Anyone who has been trained,
To study others while observing...
Their movements to watch.
Like the ones who develop characters,
With a creating them to do.
When as an actor in the performing arts.
Instantly will know,
Someone who has,
Arms folded tightly across their chest...
Is neither interested in what,
Another has to say.

And if witnessed to sit,
In a position of leadership...
Pretending to listen and comprehend,
This is not the body language to use.
That makes what someone like this,
Should choose to do.
To convince of an understanding.
With undivided attention to give it.
Or know what it is they do,
Making it obvious others are less important.
Than their own self importance to prioritize.

And...
When speaking about themselves,
Hands are all over the place.
Giving a performance too capitvating,
As if taking centerstage.
Under a spotlight brighter than Sun rays.
No one if they chose,
With sunglasses or blindfolds...
On to protect their eyes.
Could if they wanted to ignore...
The display too rehearsed and overly dramatic!

Although,
Those heard snoring from the boredom...
Are the ones criticized,
For being nonconformists and unpatriotic!
And this is bought and sold,
To the ones conscious and left to claim...
How everyone should applaud to give,
A standing ovation!

"What on Earth,
Did you hear so inspiring? "

-The applause.
I was awakened by it.
And knew if I did not stand,
My body language would give...
The wrong impression.-

"But...
You were snoring.
As if bored to death."

-No!
You confuse my meditation skills,
With my deep breathing abilities.-
