Boy With A Smile Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Boy With A Smile

The first instinct when they see a boy with a smile
Is to try and knock the smile off the face of the boy
So he can be dragged down into dull servitude
Like them and their runt-eyed litters
Fodder for prayed for natural disasters and wars that used to be handfought

A boy with a smile
Is a challenge to bullies
An affront to the hard working folks who tie up their intestines with twine in the storage compartments of sinking ships

A boy with a smile
Is the start of an excellent race
Already 1/3 home
The rest stagger on the sidelines
Nowhere near the finishing line
The proper loss eaten up
And he'll wear a tie for this occasion

A boy with a smile
Knows the aid of flowers
Brought to an otherwise unhappy event
Sad outside a looking glass
He shows how easy happy is
