On dry branches thrown
in tangled heaps for burning,
a meadowlark sings.
A classic haiku where the third line marks a sharp contrast to the first two. Excellent work! Easy to see why it won first place. I have been lucky enough to hear a meadowlark sing within the past year. I love their song.
Congratulations Grace! I haven't heard a meadowlark in quite a while. They have a really neat sound.
This haiku won first place in a League of Utah Writers contest in 2007. It was published in Panorama, Volume 33/34,2016.
