Breathe The Night Poem by Reva Kern

Breathe The Night

Breathe the night,
Rouse its serene spaces
The slight noises
of its creatures
Are betrayed
By the delicate rustling of the woods -

Renew the night
Some concealed seed
In the ferocious mines that we keep -
With the lethal milk
Feeding us a life that is prolonged
Beyond all morning
To wake up
on the edges of the world -

The night that breathes
our slow breath of defeat
Preserves and protects us
For higher destinies
