Breathing Poem by Varghese J Kuttikat

Breathing

That I breathe now should cheer me up
For the next moment I may quit,
Yes, quit the world altogether
My breathing is free, at least at the moment
In spite of dense stress and strife all around
The raging hawk may any moment swoop down
And in his fury smother my breath out
Snakes may emerge from their holes and poison the air outright
Before the likely poison blast, let me breathe in some scent
And pat myself indulgent before I breathe my last
