Bricks And Mortar Poem by keith brown

Bricks And Mortar

Who doesn't like a wall?
Dry stone or blended brick
Build it high
Build it quick! surround yourself
Away from harm
Retreat is best at first alarm.
When life and love your mind berates
A minded wall, built without gates
Lets no one in, lets not you out
That's what building walls about

Self preservation provides us mortar,
confused mind - our muddy water.
Where egos sink without a trace
Denied compassions warm embrace.
Oh! The sweet numbness that a wall can bring,
Lets no one out, no one in
Though safe and sound you may be
Your walls will never set you free
We all at times must rectify
The walls we build in our minds eye
