Brief Ode To A Clothes Peg
ode to a clothes peg
brief ode to a blue peg
written on both sides
of a white trustpower envelope
a trustpower electrial power bill
recieved in this mornings mail
ode to a blue peg
brief ode to a blue clothes peg
many times you helped
hang out each wash of clothes
in sunshine and in bad weather
in sunshine on the main clothes line
in wet rainy weather on a clothes rack
hung outside all day drying but a bit
at night by the fire warm dried off
you were a clothes peg loyal faithful
your grip was sure in you we trusted
clothes to hang secure in sunshine
in gust gusting windy wet weather
if showers or storms shy crossed
your line duty clothes gripping
in you we trusted clothes hung
out to dry to stay on our line
to be secure if hung on a clothes rack
this morning when taken to help dry
todays wash you snapped broke in two
in two pieces you fell fast to the ground
in two pieces you fell from the line to the ground
with a loud snap sudden you departed your duties
to fall lie as litter discarded upon the ground
to fall lie discarded broken upon the ground
broken never to secure clothes to line again
from the ground you were taken
tonight with ceremony you will be cremated
in the fire you stood in front of many nights
where you faithfully stood security many nights
in the fire near where you faithfully many nights
stood duty secured clothes drying to the rack
in front of blazing burning multi fuel fire
where clothed were dried house warmed
tonight into the fire you will go
into fire you will be burned away to memories
your memory will live on in a replacement peg
in each wash of clothes hung upon clothes line
in each wash of clothes hung upon clothes rack
we will remember you your service
your service to clothes drying
we will remember you
in the pegging out in the taking in
your service to clothes drying
in the pegging out in the taking in
in clothes finally from line
to clothes basket put
in clothes finally from line
or rack to clothes basket put
to be folded to be put away
to folded aired then put away
to folded put away we will remember you
rest in peace in the great clothes line in the sky
on sunny or wet days when the line stands empty
we will remember many washes once hung out
we will remember ghost pegs who held the line
