Burden On Exchequer Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

Burden On Exchequer

burden on exchequer

You come in my country
As guest and take away prosperity
Still we will say "it is your luck"
That has struck in your favor

We accepted Parsees* at our coast
Allowed them to settle as humanitarian test
They mixed with local population and prospered
Rest all tried to plunder and gambled

India was divided on religion ground
With bulk of the population found
Two nations to settle
Many were murdered and fled to new isle

States were given freedom to decide
Where to integrate and ride
Their future with new domain
Kashmir decided to remain with India

Not only has the human blood been shed
But may have gone as unknown dead
The freedom was dear and costly
We have still maintained federal structure dearly

Not only politicians have played with future
But now they have employed new structure
Burn public property and kill innocent if government does not agree
Such is fate we have inherited

Where is justice?
And even if it is there. It is delayed with no promises
Why it is made to linger?
Why so many deaths sentenced people cause burden on exchequer?
