Burlington, Vt. Poem by Alanna Flynn

Burlington, Vt.

Rating: 5.0

Free.
A free-roaming city
Filled with busy streets, public buses,
Honking horns and red light fusses.

Busy.
Busy with aspiring musicians,
Skater boys and preppy girls,
College kids galore,
And Jersey folk from the shore. (YUCK!)

Cultured.
Cultured by live music
Hippies, misfits, liberals,
And many different activists.
Individuals filled with dreams.

Attractions.
Many attracted by shopping malls,
Theatres, parks, and entertainment.
It’s all the same, just four room walls.

Hidden treasures.
Treasures on the privileged know of.
Alleyways, rebellious days,
Head smoke, thrift shops.
Evenings at the waterfront,
Watching the sun go down and the sails go up.

So THESE are the ways of us Vermont teens,
Controlling Church Street,
Running the scene.
Holding down the fort in B-town.
Escaping to my second home…
