Burning The Bible Poem by Paula Glynn

Burning The Bible

Those old Christian days
When the rebels
Burnt the bible
Burnt out of date views
Burnt out of date beliefs
Religion the enemy
For priests scolded the children
The priests stole donations
From poor families
Telling them
Having money
Made them evil
The devil to have them
Burn in hell for their sin
Supposed greed
To let the devil in
Pennies given away out of fear

This false religion
Wrong about Adam and Eve
The poor no time to conceive
The theory of evolution
Darwin at first denied
But now we know
Science explains
The world and the Universe

Science invented the computer
Science created the airplane
And the microchip
The transistor
The mobile phone
The car and everything else

Religion a personal view
God never ignored
And angels praised
Christianity a fine religion
But false religions
Have no impact on some
Science their explanation
Of this world
And the Universe we occupy
False religion a lie

And when we are told
We are evil for wanting gold
We know that carpet
Aladdin did unfold
A myth made fact
By technology
Of flying machines
That science made real
Airplanes and helicopters
Hand gliders and
Drones
Humans no fear of the sky
No fear of space travel
This world and Universe
We shall always occupy

Burning the bible
Perhaps going too far
But when we look
At every night star
We are transported far
Across the Universe
To learn religion
Beyond the bible.
