Cage Me Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

Cage Me

Build me a gilded cage
Equip it with a swing
Set it in a sunny spot
And I will sing for you.

Blow me a bell jar
Out of rose colored glass
Set me on your bed stand.
And I will dance for you.

Find me in a bottle
Hidden in a cave.
Bid me to abide inside it
And I will grant your every wish.

I know why the caged bird sings.
I know why Billy Holiday awaits her good news day.
I know why ‘tis wise to soar, but never roam.'
Once you have found your home
What need have you of freedom?
