Caged Beasts Poem by Glen Kappy

Caged Beasts

Prologue to 'Wonderful and Wise'

The beasts
are locked
within their cages

One seems calm
another rages

Each one
yearns
to mount the stars

Burns
to reconcile the bars

thank you for the strong affirmation, neal. it's one i personally like and have wondered is not more appreciated. perhaps it takes first-hand experience of struggling mightily against our physical limitations. i read this struggle in the sculptures of michelangelo alternatively titled slaves or prisoners. -glen

A caged beast will never be truly happy in bondage, it will always be longing for the open sky and the open air, even if the cage is made of gold and sumptuous food is served within! Freedom is every one's craving!

yes, and the limitations of our own bodies or cages that yearn for the eternal. st. augustine said to God something like, our hearts are restless till they find their rest in Thee. valsa, i appreciate your reading of my poems and sensitive comments. thank you. -glen
