Calling Too Late Poem by Akhtar Jawad

Calling Too Late

Rating: 5.0

Old lady mistook him as a ward-boy,
She blundered in calling the retired play-boy,
In white starched Kameez Shalwar,
From naughtiness, never too far,
"Years passed, you didn't call this boy! "

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
It really happened with me in Jinnah Hospital, Karachi, Pakistan. I was standing on the reception of private rooms. I was in a white and starched Shalwar Kameez suit. That's the dress of the ward boys. An old lady mistook me as a ward boy. She called me to the room wherein her husband was admitted. I replied, "You should have called me fifty years ago." She went in the room and came back with her husband to lodge a report against the ward boy (me) . The smart receptionist laughed and said, "Uncle, looks like a boy but he isn't a ward boy."

Your heart beat stronger than the young and you must be looking young as well. It is a compliment if she can mistook you for a ward boy. Thank you sir.

A lovely witty write that brings smile.I loved the receptionist's remark, very clever. A naughty playboy never retires when it comes to what words he utters....still the words of the poet will entice anyone..Fantastic poem. Enjoyed every bit of it including the poet's note.10
