Canonization Of Sainthood - Mother Teresa - So Much Like Christ. Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Canonization Of Sainthood - Mother Teresa - So Much Like Christ.

No one could hear those words
when they would say to themselves
''Have you forsaken me O God? ''
but she could hear them
and with open arms
she would take them to her shelter
give them food to eat, water to drink
bathe them, nurse their wounds
and put them to bed to sleep;
somewhere on the streets....
she would find anguished children
orphans, homeless who in the
barrel of poverty rolled;
a little ahead sat lepers
who in turn on streets begged
and as they gathered to share the rotis
their days earning could fetch,
some had no hands
some had no fingers to put the food
in their mouths
but when she saw them
she took them home, cleaned them
dressed them, bandaged their limbs
and provided them a home
of love and care;
no one does this
but living saints
as upon them rests duty
which God imposes,
knowing that this nun
though fragile in appearance
had compassion larger
than the volume of an ocean
and that she would walk
the corners of this world
and find people whose
sufferings and hardships
she would share and lighten,
she came here to live in the slums
and abide by that duty;
as an acceptance to God's call
those many years away from home
away from family she lived
in this city called Calcutta
where she cared for the sick and dying
the poor and the unfortunate
till they died;
and as she died
she took nothing with her
but left everything
for others to lift and follow
just like Christ
who healed and cured
the lepers, the dying;
how much divine is not that gift
which God had given her
- the courage to embrace and care
for the homeless and the lepers,
the dying and the sick,
only could a saint come marching
on this earth to do this
or only could Christ do this
what Mother Teresa rejoiced in doing
helping the poorest of the poor
without any hesitance or fear.
