Qaidi kutta garajta hai
taDakta hai, kaDakta hai
hawaa ko bhi cheer dalta hai,
Ghar k andar aadmi ki awaaz
police dwaara ultay-pultay bistray
ki tarah lagti hai.
Vo kuch bhi nahin paatay
siraf apna hi gussa dekhtay hain
puraanay makdi k jallay dekhtay hain
be-tartibi apni jagah ko kar dete hain.
Tum khamoshi doondtay ho.
Mangalwaar ka din hai
suraya bahar sangtray k neyay
faankoN ki tarah khul raha hai,
halaan k ye bhookh nahin
jo tum ko jagaah deti hai.
Tum bahar kadam rakhtay ho
aur daffodil phooloN ko apna peela
barsaati coat pehantay suntay ho
lakin kuch bhi sun na paatay ho.
ThoDay se waqt k baad k baarish aa rehi hai
ye mehsoos karnay lagtay ho.

CAPTIVITY
A POEM BY PAIGE ACKERSON-KIELY
Inside a cage the dog snarls
and snaps, even the air is torn.
Inside the house the man's voice
is a bed turned over by cops.
They find nothing but their own anger,
some old tissues. They leave the place a mess.
You want to investigate silence.
It's Tuesday, the sun is a newly
opened can of mandarin
slices,
though it's never hunger that wakes you.
You step outside, listen for a daffodil
pulling on its yellow slicker,
but cannot hear a thing. After a while,
you learn to feel for the rain.
