'Twas foggy, and the slimy toads
Did moap and croak in the lake;
All flimsy were the aspen groves,
And the bats, no noise they make.
'Beware the Snow Leopard, my son!
The claws that snatch, the jaws that bind.
Beware the Geoffroy's Cat, and run
If there's a Bobcat behind! '
He took his hunting rifle in hand;
Long time the Canada Lynx he sought—
So rested he in a Blue Spruce land,
And stood awhile in thought.
And when in dreamish thought he stood,
The Jaguar, with its eyes of blue,
Came snarfing through the snowy wood,
And will do the same to you!
Click, bang, click, bang, the gun went off
As bullets ripped the awful beast.
When it fell down the son did scoff,
And galloped toward the east.
'And hast thou slain the Jaguarondi?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O fabulous day! Hooray! Hooray! '
He chortled in his joy.
'Twas foggy, and the slimy toads
Did moap and croak in the lake;
All flimsy were the aspen groves,
And the bats, no noise they make.
I love the rhymes, very well written...I imagine the dad wearing the biggest Cheshire cat grin :)
Yes, it sounds a lot like Jabberwocky, except that Jabberwocky doesn't make sense, and this does!
I had to memorize Jabberwocky in High School. I always hated it because things could not be identified. Thanks for the comment.

Your poem is brilliant and I love it! I shall reread it several times. And thank you for the comment to Not The Bigot - I am so glad there are fellow thinkers out there.
Thank you Margaret. I'm glad you liked it.
