An area very calm and quiet
not frequented by many,
not a preferred site for visit,
only meant for last rites.
Suddenly plunged into activities,
uproarious and crowdy,
many vehicles with cadavers
some with relatives,
some without,
the place over burdened
too many dead bodies.
Kith and kin were debarred
from touching the dead.
The PPE kit wearing
were entrusted to burn
and bury in stead.
Lack of burning sites
and fire wood were
big headache for administration.
Megacities constructed
new burning structures
in parks and gardens.
Funeral pyre not extinguished
for months together.
Anxiety, panic, fear of infection
ruled the place
till the situation got a bit better.
Tons and tons of fire wood
burnt daily in cremation.
People were unconcerned
about enormity of
atmospheric pollution.
Big stretches of land
excavated by earth moving machines,
coffins were piled,
one upon another
to allow the departed souls
rest in peace.
Chaos and carnage by
Corona is experienced
and witnessed by man.
Thanks to the scientific community for devising
medicines and vaccines.
My head is bent
before all corona fighters,
my heart is filled with reverence
for all dedicated workers.
The penultimate and ultimate stanzas are great tribute to those who in one way or another dedicate their lives and efforts for this pandemic.
A vivid and detailed depiction of the chaos and carnage that the pandemic brought to humanity. A nightmare indeed! !
