Some delegates from
our society greeted
and expressed wishes to
The rose.
Had there been no thorns
in your stems,
men would love you the most.
The champak.
If only you can lessen a bit
of your intoxicating fragrance,
the black bees would come to dance on your petals.
The flame of the forest.
People would appreciate most
if you add a bit of sweet odour
to your body.
The cuckoo.
A change of your pitch dark black
colour would make you more
beautiful than the thrush bird.
The crow.
Only changing your poignant
cawing from cacophonic to
euphonic would make you
the glossiest and best scavenger
of the world.
The ocean.
If your water were not saline
and frothy, you would be the
richest source of
pure drinking water.
The moon,
Had there been no maria,
the huge dark spots on your face,
You are the most beautiful
object in the night sky.
The Sun.
Had you possessed a constant
beauty,
like the rising and setting sun
through out the day, being
devoid of scorching heat,
it would have made you
the most powerful and blissful
celestial bodies
in the limitless sky.
All of them muted themselves
for a while, then agreed in a convention to teach man a lesson.Soon there came a chorus
venting their anger,
O our dear man,
in this agathokakological world,
you are not a diamond
of the first water,
as you
Possess a brilliant brain,
technically rich,
can bless and heal, but
engaged to kill,
a mind you can keep clean and tidy, but is full of anger, lust,
ego and greed,
a heart that loves not truly,
two lotus eyes with binocular
vision that see not the best in others,
two sensitive ears that
listen not with patience,
a tongue that causes all ills,
four sturdy limbs that can do
wonders but used in all disdains.
Kindly give up your cynicism,
try not to find other's faults,
see their merits,
concentrate on your own flaws,
rectify them
to peacefully waltz.
Let me quote--'The ocean. If your water were not saline and frothy, you would be the richest source of pure drinking water.'
I cite your concluding lines here: try not to find other's faults, see their merits, concentrate on your own flaws, rectify them to peacefully waltz. So very true. I have enjoyed your aptly worded poem. Excellent pom!
How I wish we retrospect our own selves to make this world liveable. Thank you for such a beautiful poem.
