Chasing Autumn Poem by Richard D Remler

Chasing Autumn

Rating: 5.0

.......................................................

Lora Mae stepped out today
Just to see the morning sky
Tease and toss and chase each quiet
Wisp of cloud that wandered by.

She nodded to the Merigold,
And said a, "Why, hello."
Always fascinated with the magic
That made the flowers grow.

She sat along the curbside
Just to watch the Squirrels play
With the wild bonny rabbits
In the Park a skip away.

She laughed an almost quiet laugh,
And wiped a melancholy tear,
As they darted through the golden green,
To chase their fleeting yesteryear.

And she licked her lips and smiled wide
As Autumn whispered to the trees,
Tossing yellowed leaves her way
Within its ever winding breeze.

The wind felt cool against her skin,
With a taste of newness in the air,
And Lora breathed so deeply in-
Quiet as an evening prayer.

October's ukulele strings
Danced about with spirit wings,
Painting what in youth was green
The shades of every Halloween.

The blossoms kissed by Summer's glow
Envied such a grand parade
The touch of golden, red and brown
Autumn tossed into the shade.

And Lora Mae, she dried a tear
And watched the blue jays sweep the air,
And felt the passing of the year
As Autumn winds swept through her hair.

Autumn just happens to be my favourite season of the year! I'd have to agree with Ms. Bishop-Hipps that sometimes Summer can be too hot, and Winter too cold. Loved your picturesque, story-poem of chasing Autumn!
