Chemistry has a colorful history.
It may have had its roots in alchemy.
Ancients extracted metal from ores,
Made glass and bronze from making pours.
The philosopher's stone would turn lead into gold,
And extend one's life, the ancients told.
Alchemists had no naming system for new compounds,
And their attempt to conceal information had no bounds.
The early Muslim "Geber" was chemistry's father.
Englishman Sir Francis Bacon was the scientific method's author.
The Dutch chemist Jan Baptist van Helmont's book
Was a major transition and made Robert Boyle look.
Sir Isaac Newton was the greatest scientist of the 17th century,
But he wrote about a million words on alchemy.
It captivated him for 30 years, but because of Robert Hooke,
He wanted to keep it secret, he wanted nobody to look.
Many others have contributed to the cause,
So now we know of many chemical laws.
I like this one... A little History of Chemistry poem. Fun! Alchemy and Philosopher's Stone... Good stuff..
