Chicken Snake Poem by Dorsey Baker

Chicken Snake

A big 'ol rooster
found a sneaky chicken snake
prowling around
in his chicken coop
the chicken snake
tried to run
but he couldn't
because he
didn't have no legs!
that 'ol rooster
started to jump
up and down
stomping all around
his big 'ol eyes
they were full of fire!
he spread his feathers
readying himself for the fight
the rats and the mice
they started to scatter
looking for a place to hide
the hens
became so nervous
they started putting out eggs
like a manufacturing plant!
they knew that big 'ol rooster
was really really angry!
and that 'ol chicken snake
knew it too
the chicken snake tried as best he could
but wen the dust settled
that big 'ol rooster was
standing there
at the front door of the chicken coop
and the bloody body
of the chicken snake
was lying between his legs!
