Children Wanting To Be Free Poem by RoseAnn V. Shawiak

Children Wanting To Be Free

Small children running around the patio area,
exploring everything, watching each other run
and chasing after without any prompting whatsoever.

Mom's picking them up, trying to protect them
from falling and hurting themselves, as the child
kicks, cries and screams, wanting to get down.

Holding hands, children pulling with all their
might, wanting to get away and be free -
independent - learning on their own.
