Chinese New Year(Daughter Rat Married To Mighty Rat.) Poem by U Win Kyi

Chinese New Year(Daughter Rat Married To Mighty Rat.)

Once there were Daddy Rat and Mummy Rat,
Looking for a bridegroom for their Daughter Rat,
He must be the most powerful and the strongest,
They asked the sun,
If he was the one.
The sun said very loud,
'No, I am not. It is the dark cloud,
which blocks my rays.'
Then the dark cloud said, ' It is the wind which blows me away.'
Then the wind said, ' It is the giant rock which I can't move a bit.'
Then the rock said, ' It is the ox which gores and hits,
so hurt, with its horn, at the side of me, so as to sharpen it.'
The ox said, ' It is the rope with a noose,
which controls me not to run loose,
by tying to my nostril,
for farmer to plough and till,
and to lead me where to go,
and where not to go.'
' If I do not obey, the rope makes a pull,
causing my nose very painful.'
Then the Parent Rats asked the rope,
with a great hope,
If he was the one....the toughest guy.
But the rope bitterly denied and loudly cried,
' It is the Mighty Rat with sharp teeth,
which can bite me to pieces.'
Finally the Parent Rats agreed, in a manner very hurried,
to the Mighty Rat, their Daughter Rat got married,
before she was getting too old,
so as not to be living lonely soul.
(from a Burmese folklore,
to welcome the Chinese New Year 2008 - a Rat year in zodiac)
