Christmas cards spill through letterbox
Postman's feet crunching on snow
As he walks away sorting through his bag.
I fumble through cards for your handwriting
Seeking the most important card of all.
Finding your card, and feeling Christmas joy
Senses reeling like child with Santa's visit.
Opening envelope, pulling out the card
There is it, signed by you, "with all my love."
Your words most precious gift, amazing words.
Knowing you never use the word ‘love' except on cards
Greeting cards for birthday and Christmas
I keep them all, each one a declaration of your love
Words keeping heart beating, life content and joyous.
