Christmas Cards Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Christmas Cards

Christmas cards spill through the letterbox
Postman's feet crunch on the snow
As he walks away sorting through his bag.
I fumble through cards for your handwriting
Seeking the most important card of all.
Overwhelmed finding your card with Christmas joy
Senses reeling like delighted child with Santa's visit.
Opening envelope and pulling out the card
There is it, signed by you, "with all my love."
Words my most precious gift, such amazing words.
Knowing you never use the word ‘love' except on cards
Greeting cards for my birthdays and for Christmas
I keep them all, each one declaration of your love
Words keeping my life content and wondrously joyful.
