Chrysanthemum And Corona Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Chrysanthemum And Corona

I have never embraced evil thoughts to harm
any kin or foe in my tragic tale of life.
If I want to have fresh air, water and food
and desire to make a fresh start in life,
is it fair to engage in spasmodic love?
I have a scrupulous mind to scotch rumours
against anyone who is a friend or foe.

Corona has the shape of the odorous
Chrysanthemum, in the fancy of the men.
One gives good odours and the other cleans
the rotten world to be good environs to live.
When the virus does good, you denounced me
with silence not replying to my outbursts.
I have now renounced my desires and passions
and when the Corona-imposed curfew ends
you will see me a sage doing penance
with uncut hair, unshaven beard and mustache.
Don't shed tears then and ask me to back again
to chase you as a speechless and aimless man.
