Chunkabunks You're A Bucket Of Fun Poem by Bernice Lopez

Chunkabunks You're A Bucket Of Fun

It's been a full day of grieving and reminiscing your perfection
As I look through pictures when you were at your prime
I remember your tail wag side to side
as you jumped up in joy while we sang your favorite song
"Chunkabunks you're a bucket of fun."

When we lived in the city that never sleeps
it seemed like we were the first ones up to enjoy the snowy days.
I remember how much you loved the snow
as you chased us around the park
with so much joy on your face
"Chunkabunks you're a bucket of fun."

You were our perfect guardian and companion.
You protected us by making it known to others
with your loud bark and growl,
to back up, when they got too close to us.
I remember your loyalty and love for us vibrated through your body
and I honor you for that.
"Chunkabunks you're a bucket of fun."

As I feel the shift of sadness in my heart
I remember how difficult these past 2 weeks have been.
It felt like torture
as we went back and forth trying to decide
if it was time to let you go.
We wished and prayed to have more years with you
but we knew it would have been selfish of us
to keep you in this world, in pain
just to satisfy our needs.

In the last 20 minutes before we headed to say the final goodbye
the smell of a burnt out candle surrounded me
At that moment I knew
your guardian angel blew out your candle
to signal that your mission was completed.

As tears rushed down my face
I felt a piece of my heart break away
You tried to get up and come to me
but your body was so weak and tired
At that moment I knew spiritually
you took that piece of my heart, and held it close to you.

It was time to face our challenge together as a family.
As we carried you to say our final goodbye
it felt more like the walk of death
since you were not returning back home with us.

We sang to you in that cold room
with tears racing down our face
in hopes to keep you at ease
while the venom slithered through your body
slowly shutting down every organ.
"Chunkabunks you're a bucket of fun"

A smile came to my face
as I saw your tail wag side to side
I knew you were happy as we released you from your pain.
I sensed you were not alone
Especially, a few days before I saw signs of my grandma being around.
I knew she was here for you
by your side
waiting to guide to your next mission.

"Chunkabunks you're a bucket of fun"
Are the lyrics that will remain with me
It will give me strength and courage
when I feel defeated
It will give me hope
when I feel lost or discouraged.

I know this is not our last goodbye
I will see you again
so you can place that missing piece of my heart
and make it whole again.
Until we meet again.......
