A poem need not be a riddle
With composite sentences
Mysterious play of words
To be a classic
It can be simple
Like Wordsworth's 'Daffodils'
Or like 'twinkle, twinkle little star'
Which a child can understand
Which anyone can relate to
A youth, an illiterate, an old man
Which gets stuck in the brain
And stays there for years
Which comes out without planning
While we converse
To emphasize a point
Or give vent to a feeling
Which paints a picture so perfect
That you see the woods
Appreciate its depth and loveliness
Hear the jingle of a horse's bell
Because, years back you read Frost!
