Clean Swept Poem by Ruta Mohapatra

Clean Swept

Rating: 5.0

There was this storm inside her mind
As they sometimes rise
When the conditions are ideal
Which raged for three days
Before calm returned

The exhaustion was both mental and physical
And she rested after its passing
Slowly relishing the halcyon state
The calm wind that cooled
The quiet that put her to sleep

She visited her mind's room afterwards
To see the after effect of the storm
Debris scattered everywhere
Debris of the emotions that had ruled
Anger, sadness, jealousy, helplessness

And she took up a broom to sweep
From corner to corner
Piled it in the middle
And lighted a fire
To burn to ashes, the remnants of the storm
