Coma Poem by Andrea Bailey

Coma

Quietly sleeping dreaming Of a life so sweet
She once had

Hearing whispers and voices she heard before
And the opening and closing of a door

Unable to move but not sure why
Unable to laugh. Unable to cry

She tries to answer. But lost the knack
Trying to flutter her eyelashes so they will know
That she is still with them and loves them so

Back in a slumberous sleep
Her mind losing it’s desire to keep

Trying and trying to come to the real world
Her thoughts and the voices together so curled
Not sure if she is in a dream or terrible nightmare

She hears those that love her. But her thoughts are not clear
Where is she now … perhaps heaven or perhaps hell

She has no idea … no way to tell
So off she goes back to a place
Where people know her
Fast asleep. In her COMA
