dive dive dive
don't breathe
just arrow down through air
into water, plunging deep
beneath the surface
feeling weight, seeing shadow
sun a mere suggestion
to vision blurred by salt
not tears this time
but life primeval
mother ocean taking back
her offspring
shaking off the bonds
of greens and yellow
spiked with red
for the cool essence of grey,
of blues that swirl in seaweed curls
around the wrists, the throat
and braid into the hair
bedecked with bubbles
or is it pearls that rush
to nestle there
cool pallid beauty
half seen in flashing motion
as the corner of an eye
captures glimpses
in the frothing of the foam
and seasoned sailors laugh
dreaming of the sirens
swimming deep behind their own eyes
hardly noticed
yet always there.
