Moonlight glistens on the sands,
where lapping waves play lullabies,
white laced reefs, of coral bands,
where silver shines from the nightime skies,
A galleons lights seen through the dark,
sailing gracefully with the tide,
a framework of red embered sparks,
winds through her rigging gently sighed
Then swallowed by the evenings mist,
at mercy of the cold cruel sea,
A memory of the girl i'd kissed,
upon that ship who's leaving me......
What a beautiful tale, and such a rhythm running all through just like a song; like a slow wave taking you out to sea. I really enjoyed this, will have to save it for later reading again and again. Thank you, this makes reading poetry so worthwhile. Have to read a lot to come across the occasional one like this. Had such good luck today..(smile)
this is so beautiful read aloud....and so enchanting until the last lines when we realize the loved one is on the ship... never to return.... (sad!)
Your impeccable rhythm and rhyme, wonderful story telling and glorious imagery makes me want to read this poem over and over again. A sad ending, but I can cope with this as the poem is so beautiful.....10 love Karin
Always that special touch Laurie which make your poems memorable - this is enchanting, your imagery comes to life as I gaze at a ship on the horizon, and makes me think of farewell kisses tenderly given to those on board. Lovely story
