Countrymen Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

Countrymen

Countrymen

I have not descended here
To wage a war
Or make an armed struggle
And kill the people

It is not my mission
Let me have full confession
I am mere creature
To live with peace here

Not to fight as black
Or hate to white with something at stake
But hold country with respect and act
This must be reality on face

We are not here to turn
The fertile land into barren
Kill our breathern for land
And turn them blood thirsty for friends

So far we lived as one
No we have turned guns
Going for evil acts and murderous attacks
Thos leads to fear and shakes faith

So I may be Asian, American or African
But above all, I am human
I may work for man or woman
But it shall be our countrymen
