from 'While Passing Through'/Summer
Quiet dawn.
In silhouette on a wire
a mourning dove couple—
it looks like one
gently grooms the other.
We have both learned key lessons from bird couples this summer, me with my finches perching on the balcony railing, you with these doves showing a natural tenderness, all the mire convincing because it's spontaneous. Thus is a perfectly balanced tanka.
hey, daniel! thank you for reading and commenting. i do learn much from creatures. i think of walt's i think i could turn and live with the animals. may we (in the largest sense of we, in the lord's prayer sense of we) keep learning. glen
Thank you, Ravi. We can learn some things from these birds, yes? The best to you! -Glen

It is such a beautiful sight! .....birds tending and caring each other! I had two finches, a male and female staying together in a cage, pruning each other's feathers in turn! They slept together huddling close. With so much delight, I used to watch them! A beautiful Tanka!
Hi, Valsa! And thank you. On top of everything else we get from nature are these models of tenderness, of relating to one another. -Glen
