Creating An Inner World Poem by RoseAnn V. Shawiak

Creating An Inner World

Reaching for stars of an inner universe, watching them smile
and twinkle above in another dimension, exciting, exhilarat-
ing and totally freeing this soul and being.

An exceptional feeling within, needing nothing from others,
having it all within, creating a world to entertain self
through writing.

Poetry hopefully reaching others, opening their minds and
helping them in any way needed in their personal lives,
words inspiring others somehow as they read each one.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Daniel Brick 06 February 2017

This poem expresses what we have talked about a lot in our prose comments to each other: it deals with what I call our human interiority, but we both are fully committed to calling this interiority S-O-U-L. Your 2nd and 3rd stanzas highlight the benefits of your Interior Journey: Stanza 2 shows how you have become a complete human being via YOUR LIFE AS A POET. You call this entertaining yourself which some readers might see as an egoistic statement. I know it is not at all egoistic: it is an acknowledgement that the work of being a poet has been transformed into the delight of being a poet. But it's still hard work, as we well know! ! Stanza 3 concerns the altruistic element of poetry: your poems help people make sense of their lives, and then move on. And prosper, in the spiritual sense. You'll like this quotation by Chung-yuan Chang, a philosopher: ONLY WHEN THE POET HAS REACHED SERENITY CAN S/HE GIVE A MIRROR-LIKE REFLECTION OF ALL HUMAN EXPERIENCE. THE PARTICULAR (the poet's self, his/her personal life and niche in the world) BECOMES THEUNIVERSAL (the whole shebang) .
