Cristoforo Columbus Through The Eyes Of Many Poem by Hebert Logerie

Cristoforo Columbus Through The Eyes Of Many

Historians rarely tell a true and real story.
It is not surprising that the one at hand
Is highly controversial, and indeed creepy.
Christopher Colombus and his cronies stand
In the hall of our history like infallible giants,
Like boy scouts who had great intentions under the tents,
However, for the American Indians, he was a conqueror,
With a stroke of the sword, killed for gold, a mass murderer
Whose dogs ate the Indian flesh, and a heartless oppressor.
It is also true that he was a gutsy explorer, an adventurer.
Colombo, in error, is known as the man who discovered the Americas.
Some historians mentioned that Columbus never set his ass,
Or wet his feet, in the sea of the United States of America.
Others will tell you that he was the great grand dad of all mafias.
Many Europeans had visited the New World before Christopher.
Nowadays, most people think that he was the son of Lucifer,
Columbus does not deserve to have a holiday named after him.
Some gurus are confused; they don’t know how to tell the story
Of this highly controversial icon of the 14th. Century.
We are all dumbfounded, and embarrassed; we are on a whim.
I don’t know what to say to my Italian friends,
Who want this brave explorer be treated as a Hero,
A genius, a great guy, who created with his own hands
The New World, free of racism, cruelty and imbroglio.
To prove that Cristoforo was a rapist, Bartholomew de Las Casas
Had repudiated him, by trying to protect the Native Americans.
Columbus Day is a very sad event for all the Americas,
Including the United States, and all true and real Citizens
From now on, I’ll pray for peace and respect for all. This Monday,
My friends, I will be observing Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
