Cultural Year Zero Poem by DM W

Cultural Year Zero

Rating: 5.0

What has happened to our culture?
Now, Z list celebrities are popular,
Because they eat ghastly insects,
In exotic jungles on Reality T.V.
What is the point? What is the purpose?
Is this someone's idea of a joke?
I don' t think it's funny at all.
Indeed, I think it's a crying shame.

This is the reason I choose not to watch Tv any more only for the latest news on iPlayer. Plus the odd movie or recommended box set such as Chernobyl, Succession or something a little bit more intellectually stimulating... The Clangers. You know the one with the Soup Dragon on the moon. Not forgetting Captain Pugwash and the timeless Hector's House. A full score Dominic and take care or turn it over or release a flaming Apache arrow into the accursed invention.

It is a way of destroying all fine culture with the mundane and pathetic to may way for our dystopia future. Sad but most likely a well penned poem, essay or novel will be a thing of the past a almost non existent in 50 years. Keep the language alive through your poems my friend.

I agree. Its like watching the a spectacle in the arena I suppose it taps into some peoples darker side. The Greeks called it catharsis to live out their worst fears through shared experience in the theatre in safe space where emotions could be given free expression. Having said that your description of reality TV is spot on and is neither high art no entertainment. I suppose it is the old idea of bread and circuses.
