Dad And Fast Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Dad And Fast

Dad and fast

Following the customs
-I was born a Muslim,
-was trained as Muslim,
-and grew as Muslim.

I dislike myself for
-not being good Muslim
- (as I saw in father.)

Wish I was!
- (wish could have copied him;
-wish had been: "Do as must.")

In Islam
-as is seen in most faiths,
-many things are great
- (I found it in my ways.)

Fast and Hajj,
-and Salat (or Namaz)
-to me are favourites and I love.

"Be humble, controlled and giving."
-I was told and was taught;
-to be base, foundation of Islam.

Don't steal, do not lie.
Don't stare with greed to their sights.
Don't rumble nobody's given rights.

"Eat less and save and share
-with those who may have needs.
-Bear in mind, not for show, silently.
-Do not fast passively,
-taking rest, sleeping lazily.
-You must work as you did
-to feel the labour and sympathise
-with those who carry load on shoulders
-to give you your life and livelihood.
-This is how you sense them,
-empathise with their deeds."

That was "Fast' and the Hajj: "If you can."
-is not must to the poor, handicap.

Go visit the sisters, brothers,
Give, gather, share knowledge,
See the world as they see,
Tell them of your deeds, needs.

Then, compile heard and said
-with it make wise senate.

And the last is the best.

Live proud, keep head up.
Never bow to no one.
Bowing is just to one.
Single, One, is Allah.

Allah is needless, just.
Allah is best and kind.
Allah is soul master…
Allah is the owner;
(of all times...)
Free be of other than Allah.

Allah is too close and too far
(closer than the vein and
-further than cosmos.)

Allah is, me, myself
-makes me look in mirror.

Seeing so, like dad was,
-I wish I, was Muslim.

Humbly he prayed;
-bowed and sought forgiveness.

Dad never was afraid,
-though humble was proud
-he was love inside out;
-loved people, all as one.
