Dark Ages Poem by Barry Middleton

Dark Ages

there is a story I was told
of shadow lands and mystery
of lead transmuted into gold
a misty realm of alchemy

the legend says the world is flat
and witches never sink but float
and this is this and that is that
and heaven's view is quite remote

but ancient belief is now disturbed
by existential elements
and crazed fanatics are perturbed
by modern day developments

Times surely have changed. Established concepts take time to vanish but the world is moving really fast. Still i like to go back sometimes in history and see through the eyes of our ancestors. Enjoyed reading.

Thanks. As long as we don't return in reality to those dark ages. I am very distressed over reactionary political trends in the US. I pray that rational and progressive voices will prevail.
