Darkest Call Poem by Poseidon Andronikos Menegakis

Darkest Call

Rating: 5.0

Countless souls approach the shore
In a land torn by war.
Lost hopes taken by the river's flow
And as the stars fade, life turns to gore.

Broken hearts left in a world with no core
As legions sent from Hell march the burning fields.
By the pain and fear, every mortal soul yields.
Broken dreams, vast oceans of mothers' tears.
And now, they appear before the doom, all the mortal fears…

Cry now. Break, as the darkness takes the wheel.
Cry now. Let your Breath be gone. Pain is all you feel.

Deathly smiles, the calling of the Fallen
Through fear bent and through despair broken
Every soul by lust, passion and desire driven.
Iron chains tighten around the throat of freedom
By demons dragged down to the circles of the hellish kingdom

Cry now. Feel the horror. There are more to come…
Cry now. The gates are opened. Now you know, what you've done…

As stars fades, life turns to gore. ] this is a powerful image: Stars are our human symbols of purity, higher existence, beacons drawing us upward, harmony. If they fade and their influence diminishes, life loses its moral/spiritual focus. Unchecked violence results. And the most helpless, civilian refugees, are the victims. I don't see the extremity of your war images as a THRILLER element. This is the gut level of violence and it must be presented in all of its gruesomeness to galvanize public outcry. THE VAST OCEAN OF MOTHERS' TEARS is your response to the violence as a poet of conscience, not a maker of THRILLER movies. I feel Georgios has missed the passion that generated your poem: it is a passion for justice, a cry for a humane world to assert peace and order.

A poem should not be a thriller. Your plain text describes random scenes that belong to a fiction movie. Such movies sell a dime a dozen nowadays. In your position I would learn the rules of metrical poetry, read the works of Lord Byron, John Keats, Oscar Wilde and try to compose some serious poetry of my own.

Well dear master poet I indeed find funny the fact that such a deity is not aware of the words' weight which according to the serious people like homer's reason of being blinded.... church and occult, weight is what can turn a somewhat irrelevant script which is not considered art by most gods, to an actual hymn. Most hymns and summons are metric, you will say. Yeah true, because judging by the fact weight didnt ring a bell its obvious you never went deep into the whole thing in the first place. Not all poets care about being accepted by ancient masters of all rhymes and verses upon this world, you see. For even them, appear to not care about actually commenting the work of others, regardless how pathetic it may be... Instead, they preffer to grab a book and smack it into their faces because the-whoever-peasant-didnt-follow their way is not worthy so lets just roast. Casually, so people can see how awesome they are. Also funny, given that I at start considered your comments actual points, until you blackmailed do my thing or go home, child which ended up with me needing binoculars to locate the coment's gravety down there, in the hollow earth. And friendly -still- advice: Never try to End a discussion which was in the first place not a discussion but a roast. For for someone who is aware of the very basic of human psychology can easily make you repost which will end up with your previous blackmailing getting funnier by the comment.... Always a pleasure, The Peasant

Who talks about weight in Homer's poetry? And what is weight according to that person? Iliad and Odyssey where written entirely in Dactylic hexameter, therefore they belong to metrical poetry. It seems that you and many others do not comprehend what serious poetry is and how it was written by a great master like Homer. From Wikipedia we read: .....Dactylic hexameter (also known as heroic hexameter and the meter of epic) is a form of meter or rhythmic scheme in poetry. It is traditionally associated with the quantitative meter of classical epic poetry in both Greek and Latin and was consequently considered to be the Grand Style of classical poetry. The premier examples of its use are Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, Virgil's Aeneid, and Ovid's Metamorphoses......... I highly respect Homer's work because it is only serious metrical-epic poetry, and it never becomes broken common text lines thrown randomly on a page. I wish to end this discussion here. Study the Classics if you wish to learn. Do not study them if you think you are already perfect. End of discussion.

So, by taking your advice, violent or red scenes are not the way to express through poetry, metrical poetry is the only form of poem structure which is considered art and Homer is not a serious poet, given half his work was based on weight and not rhyme. Alright. If I didn't miss anything, I am pretty sure this is an opinion to be considered, although not a rule which must be followed by the book. For as said, not every equasion contains R and N. i is also a parameter which tears the previous rules apart. Which is something that proves that anything is possible and can be balanced, even in a disturbed way. That's more or less the concept of my writing actually, I see poetry not just as syllables and matching words, for there are scenes and visions, some heavier than others. First line for example cannot be consider of equal weight with the second. Therefore a pause was implanted, marking the scene's gravety. Same with the rest. Due to time and effort, I did not proceed in weight calculation because yeah, the voices are enough already didn't want to bring anything more around...

Edgar Allan Poe is a decent poet. Keep in mind it takes a lot of studying and practicing to learn how to create, interpret and handle poetry. Metrical poetry follows the laws of music and music the laws of mathematics. Mathematics interpret the laws of the Universe. Plain texts cannot do that.

Just by the very first statement, I would persume that Edgar Allan Poe is not considered a serious poet before your eyes... In any case, I strongly believe that art is like cosmos. There are no limits, for it cannot be patronized the way for the many to see what wished by them, for it is made to be the way the writer sees the vision. For by forcing metrical poetry is the route to industry of thought, what leads to the mind of ash. Many have been those who wrote without rhyme, yet accepted by the world of poetry... Every script has something to say, for only the writer knows the initial meaning. From there, every reader makes his own out of his thoughts. ....Many see ill to those who walk beyond the path of serious poetry in this case, for different is always looked down upon... Like the black sheep amongst the white... Like the cucumber, on a plate of tomato salad...

Please, tell the countless souls who approach the shore, not to worry. The taxpayers of European impoverished countries will take care of all their needs.

Those souls come not by a land torn by war though. But well, concept is respective to the person reading.
