Day Break Poem by Sonal Chhaya

Day Break

Rating: 5.0

Streaks of red, orange, yellow,
Light up the sky
Majestic roar of the lion
The gleaming sun
Start of a brand new day.

A narrow beam escapes the window pane
Illuminate speckles of dancing dust
Sneaking into the room
Casting shadows
Announces it’s presence.

Caresses the form sprawled across the bed
Tossing and turning
Gripping onto the last moments of sleep
A nervous wreck
Lost in emotion
Lost to the world
Is this home?

Kindled warmth and hope
Runs through the open door
Amidst birds and bees
Rows of lilies and daffodils
Ranging in varied colors
Ultraviolet to infra red.

Soaking in the panorama of beauty
A dream or reality
Seated below a giant oak
A teardropp from the sky above
A drizzle and then a downpour
A deafening explosion from above.

Drenched yet not completely
Retraces back through the lingering saffron décor
Minutes tick away
Camouflaged darkness
Suddenly awake, Lights up a candle
Stares into the light
Eyes twinkling
Whispers “Home at last”.
