Plant-life becomes more efficient
in deserts, on cliffsides, and on the beach—
more frugal, more resilient to stress.
Those arid, precipitous, stormy
periods in my life teach me
to draw from the silos
of past days of plenty,
days of calm winds
when hills seemed rounder on top.
