Death - Were You Standing There Looking At Me? Poem by Paul Warren

Death - Were You Standing There Looking At Me?

Were you standing there looking at me?
When I was alone watching death take thee
As I was standing looking at you some more
On the operating table with your blood on the floor
Was that the end of it all then
It was over for you with no need to pretend
Were you standing there looking at me?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I was asked to go into a operating theatre to see if a murder victim was presentable for his wife to see. This is what was going through my mind at the time.
